Work with SEAPA: Fundraising Consultant

The Southeast Asian Press Alliance is seeking proposals from qualified individuals to help the organization develop its fundraising strategy.

Objectives/Role:

  • Review and analyze the current fundraising realities for press freedom and freedom of expression advocacy in relation to SEAPA’s strategic plan
  • Determine an organizational strategy for SEAPA to diversify sources of funds and toward improved sustainability of the network
  • Develop, in consultation with Board, staff and members, viable project concepts based on SEAPA’s strategic plan.
  • Identify and contact potential donors who will receive these proposals.
  • Develop proposals to prospective donors based on the respective submission formats of the latter.

Timeframe: 15 June to 15 December 2017

Deadline for submission of applications/proposals: 31 May 2017.

Work Arrangement:

  • The consultant shall propose a daily honoraria for the task over the prescribed timeframe, based on an agreed work plan subject to further extension as agreed upon by both parties, as necessary.
  • SEAPA shall cover related costs to this evaluation, including travel and accommodations to countries identified in the workplan. These expenses may be pre-paid by SEAPA prior to the activities or be reimbursed based on official receipts or accepted transactions.
  • The work involves conducting consultations with a range of stakeholders within SEAPA, including the Secretariat, members of the Board of Trustees, member organizations and other identified stakeholders.
  • The successful candidate shall report to the Executive director.

Output:

  • Analysis of funding situation for press freedom and freedom of expression advocacy.
  • SEAPA Fundraising strategy, including : organization and secretariat-wide, programmes and in partnership with members
  • Project proposals/concepts for the following: SEAPA key issues (press freedom, impunity, self-regulation, online freedom of expression, media pluralism), capacity building, SEAPA Fellowship, SEAPA membership development, SEAPA’s 20th Anniversary Celebration
  • Consultations with SEAPA board and members with concrete recommendations on fundraising directions

Qualifications:

  • Experience and demonstrable success in fundraising in the field of freedom of expression and press freedom or human rights advocacy, including development of fundraising strategies for NGOs similar in mandate or nature as SEAPA.
  • Prior experience of freedom of expression and press freedom advocacy in the regions
  • The applicant must be based within Southeast Asia.

Applicants should submit an offer that specifies the proposed work plan and compensation based on the work arrangement described above, methods and a detailed budget for the assignment, her/his CV, and work portfolio. The consultancy should be conducted over a period of approximately six months, with the final identified deliverables to be submitted by 15 December.
