Red-shirt magazine editor denied bail

Former editor of Voice of Thaksin, Somyot Prueksakasemsuk was denied bail by the Criminal Court on 1 Nov, according to Bangkok Post. With the denial, Somyot will continue his detention since arrested on 30 April . He spent the first 84 days in detention without charge under the Criminal Procedure Code, before being charged with two lese majeste offences.

Bangkok Post reported on 2 Nov that Somyot’s lawyer Karom Polthaklang filed an application for bail on 1 Nov with land title deeds worth more than 1 million baht, but the court ruled that there was no reason to release Somyot. For more information see the following previous alert.
