Indonesian journalists, with black tapes on their mouths and hands tied, stand in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta on Friday (7 September 2018) to protest the seven year-court sentence and demand the release of Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo who were convicted under the colonial-era Official Secrets Act.

Following is their statement addressed to Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi:

We’re knocking on your door asking you to free our friends.
Free the journalists.
Journalists are not criminals.
We work for humanity, justice, welfare, and freedom of expression.
Free the journalists in Myanmar.
Don’t put us in jail.
Don’t criminalise journalists.
We’re not criminals.
We’re journalists.
Free the journalists in Myanmar.

The statement ended with this appeal: All journalists in the world, let us unite.
