Theme: “Promoting a regional understanding of impunity in journalists killings in the Philippines”
This year, the Annual Fellowship Program is designed to support the regional campaign to end impunity for violence against journalists. In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the Maguindanao massacre in the Philippines, the 2014 Fellowship will focus on impunity in the Philippines. It is important for the media in the region to capture the extent of the threat on the media and families of the victims; the lukewarm state role in ending impunity despite strong civil society push; and the judicial obstacles that delay the delivery of justice in impunity killings.
Note: The Fellowship is open to all journalists in Southeast Asia, except those from the Philippines, in keeping with the Fellowship practice for fellows to examine issues in a second country.
