SUPPORTERS OF the incumbent Mayor of Muntinlupa prevented members of the media from looking for vote-buying stories on 7 May 2016.

According to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), Kit Lagare, producer and commentator of Kilatis Int’l Online TV, Malou Cabahug of DWAD and Pol Baral of DZXL were on their way to Southville III, Brgy. Poblacion in Muntinlupa when they chanced upon a group of people having a meeting along the street.

The group was later identified as supporters of now mayor-elect Jaime Fresnedi. They turned on the members of the media and started a commotion. The police arrived to stop the incident. The media workers were then brought to the police station for their protection.

Several minutes later, a certain Atty. Alcantara stormed into the police station and said he will be filing charges against the media workers. Alcantara claimed that the media were distributing black propaganda materials against former Mayor Aldrin San Pedro who is running against Fresnedi.

Lagare told NUJP that Alcantara’s allegation was unfounded. The media workers will also file counter charges against the supporters of Fresnedi.
