The professional membership of the FCCT believe the Thai authorities have overreacted. This incident has caused unnecessary further harm to the country’s already dented reputation for media freedom — Thailand was once one of the freest countries in Southeast Asia with a vibrant press. For the record, this is the sixth programme cancelled at the FCCT since a coup was staged in 2014 and the country became subject to military rule.

[Cambodia] Drop Fabricated Charges against ‘ADHOC 5’

Cambodian authorities should immediately drop politically motivated bribery charges against five human rights defenders known as the ADHOC 5 (“FreeThe5KH” in social media campaigns), five international organizations said today. The trial of the five – four current and one former senior staff members of the nongovernmental Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC) – is scheduled for August 27, 2018, after lying dormant for a year. If convicted, each faces between 5 and 10 years in prison.

[Cambodia] Statement: CCIM calls for a complete drop of all charges against two former RFA reporters

The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) welcomes the release on bail of two former reporters of Radio Free Asia (RFA Khmer service), Mr. Oun Chhin and Mr. Yeang Sothearin on August 21, 2018. While CCIM considers this as a positive move, CCIM strongly believes that more could have been done. CCIM therefore would like to calls for a complete drop of all charges against Chhin and Sothearin.
