[Thailand] Investigative reporter detained

Nattaporn Veeranant was taken to the Paholyothin Police Station for interrogation and to be charged. He was detained for nine hours from around 4 p.m. until after 1 a.m. on August 10. He was released on bail for 15,000 baht (approximately USD 450), which was posted by Prasong Lertratanawisute, executive director of Isra Institute, which runs the news agency.

[Thailand] Journalist faces a possible 14-year jail term

Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) executive director Edgardo Legaspi condemned the filing of charges against Pravit saying that these are unjustified: “Pravit’s posts are well within his right to express his opinion as a journalist and as a Thai citizen to criticize the government.”
