[Philippines] TV Reporter Receives Hateful Threat

A GMA News reporter received a malicious threat online on 19 September 2017 after covering Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s trip to Singapore in an effort to counter President Rodrigo Duterte’s allegation that the senator kept offshore bank accounts. The case was among the many online threats against media workers since President Duterte took office on 30 June 2016.

[Myanmar] Burmese photographers covering the Rohingya crisis detained in Bangladesh

Burmese photojournalist Minzayar Oo and his assistant Hkun Lat were detained in the town of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh on 7 September 2017 (Thursday). The two remain in police custody and their lawyer have been denied access by authorities, according to the GEO magazine press release.
